Morganite is an enchanting gemstone whose soft hues are sure to attract the attention of all gentle, romantic souls. It is also associated with the symbolism of love and is said to have several special qualities! This is why morganite jewellery is so popular. It adds a touch of tenderness to any outfit and can even enhance the personality of its owner. Whether you're looking for a birthday gift or wedding jewellery, morganite could be just the thing. Find out more!

What is morganite?

The charming gemstone morganite is classified in the beryl family, along with aquamarine and emerald. It is sometimes called pink beryl or pink emerald. Perhaps it is not surprising that it is most commonly found in nature in a light pink colour. But it can be found in a wide range of colours – from violet to peach to almost clear. The variety of pastel colours is influenced by the presence of manganese or cesium in the compound. And to bring out the most beautiful and intense hue, the gemstone is also heat treated. So when you set out to choose a gemstone, don't be surprised by the variety, but remember that each piece is an original!

Origin of the gemstone

Unlike many other gemstones, morganite does not have a very long history. The first references to its existence appear only in the last century, specifically in 1910, when the gemstone was identified. The following year it was named by George F. Kunz after the famous banker, financier and gemstone collector J. P. Morgan.

According to some sources, the mining of this gemstone began in Madagascar at the end of the 19th century. This is where the most beautiful pink morganites come from. But there are also other deposits in Brazil, where peach-coloured gems are most abundant. They are also found in Mozambique, China, Russia, the United States, Afghanistan and Zimbabwe.

Symbolism and uses of morganite

Morganite, also known as the “angel stone”, is often associated with the symbolism of love. It is said to help its owner to receive and hold love in all its forms. The gemstone is also said to promote calmness and emotional balance and to relieve stress. Its magical effects are said to be most effective on those born under the signs of Libra, Taurus or Aquarius

It is often used for meditation or as a talisman. However, thanks to its charming appearance and subtle colours, it is most often used in jewellery where master jewellers can create stunningly original pieces.

How to wear morganite jewellery?

Every romantic soul will love gold jewellery set with morganite. Its pastel hues are best accentuated by rose gold. But if you prefer white gold, you'll find it too. Of course, yellow gold also goes well with angel stone, but remember that lighter colours can be slightly distorted by the contrasting yellow.

How to take care of morganite jewellery

With a hardness of 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale, beautiful morganite is also a fairly durable stone. However, like any gemstone, it does require some care to maintain its charm over time. All quality jewellery should be cleaned regularly with a soft cloth and soapy water, but avoid aggressive chemicals that can damage the stone and metal. It's a good idea to remove jewellery before physical activity, exercise or bathing to avoid damage. For more tips on how to care for your jewellery, see our article.
