5 summer proposal tips + matching engagement rings

Summer is perhaps the most magical time for proposals. The days are long, the landscape is beautifully green and the free time directly encourages trips, travel and romantic moments just for the two of you. So if you're just planning to propose to your sweetheart and wondering where to make the big moment happen, we've got a little inspiration for beautiful places in the countryside. And of course, since the proposal also includes choosing an engagement ring, for each location you'll also find a few tips on jewellery that we think is most suited to the location or situation. So come check it out with us.

Do you have a proposal coming up? Get ready for them!

Feel like it's time to take your relationship one step further? Summer offers plenty of opportunities for a magical proposal. Whether during a trip to the countryside, at sunset, or on your dream vacation.

But there are a few things you should think about before the actual moment... from the timing, to the choice of ring, to the flow of the declaration of love itself. To make sure you don't get lost in the shuffle, we've put together some helpful proposal tips to guide you through all the preparations.

But for now, let's take a look at a selection of the best locations to propose in the countryside!

1. Mountain lakes, rivers or flooded quarries

Silence, mountain peaks, forests and crystal clear water. Mountain streams, springs or lakes have a soothing, often overwhelming atmosphere. And it's while strolling past a calm turquoise surface or a babbling brook that the time may come for an original proposal.

If you're heading across the border this year, try to plan a stop at less known but all the more magical places. In Austria, you'll be enchanted by Dorfer See or the quiet Hintersteiner See. Switzerland will entice you with its less known Lac de Mauvoisin dam. In Slovenia, we recommend a trip to the romantic Savica waterfall or the iconic largest lake Bohinj (here there will be a much higher concentration of people).

But even in the Czech Republic, you don't have to look for places to get engaged for long. In Šumava, romantic lakes like Černé or Plešné await, which have a blue-green tinge in the right light. And if you're tempted by a more raw atmosphere, try the flooded quarries – such as Velká Amerika, Šífr Quarry or Quarry in Hradiště, where the colour of the water will amaze you. Just be careful with the timing, these places can be touristy in the summer months, so we recommend opting for weekday mornings.

CHOOSE THE JEWELRY: A Swiss blue topaz engagement ring is exactly the type of jewellery that will forever remind your loved one of that moment. And that's because of the colour. Whenever she looks at it, she'll remember how cold the water was that day and how the world stopped for a second at that moment.

2. Forests and meadows

Sometimes you just don't have to go far! Places where daisies bloom or pine trees smell, twigs crunch underfoot and the sun shines through the branches have their own magic. In such an atmosphere, time slows down, the rush of the world recedes... it's just the two of you. It'll be quiet. Just the sound of the birds and the wind. At that moment, you just feel the time is right.

An engagement during a walk in the woods or a summer picnic in a blooming meadow? They may seem ordinary at first, but if your loved one loves pure nature, they can be extremely powerful. Plus, all you need is a blanket, a picnic basket with your favorite goodies, an engagement ring and you're good to go!

And where to go? Try the White Carpathians, where meadows bloom like a catalogue in the early summer months. The forests around Telč, Křivoklátsko or the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area are also beautiful, where you'll find quiet corners and views of the countryside. Bohemian Switzerland or Šumava can also provide a beautiful setting for your big day. Or think about where your sweetheart prefers to go. Maybe it's the meadow behind the house where you go every Sunday.

CHOICE OF JEWELLERY: A twig ring with a lab-grown diamond, an engagement ring with a moss agate or an emerald ring. These are our picks for gold jewelry that's perfect for a proposal surrounded by woods and meadows.

3. Holidays in a dream destination

Salty air, the sound of waves, hot sand underfoot and the sea merging with the sky. That's exactly what you might think of when you hear the word holiday! Away from the daily routine, free from responsibilities and a space to stop for a while. And so it's no wonder that most often it is a proposal on holiday that takes place.

Just imagine a romantic walk on the beach, dinner in a quiet restaurant, or just a quiet morning on the balcony overlooking the sea... these can all be perfect moments to pull out the ring. The benefit of a vacation is that you'll most likely both be on the same wavelength. Rested, relaxed and in tune with each other. Plus, if you're heading to a destination you've wanted to visit for a long time, combining the experience with the engagement will have an even deeper meaning for you.

And where to go? In Europe, we recommend Madeira, which is not coincidentally known as the Hawaii of Europe. Of course, the beautiful Greek islands are a great choice – but instead of crowded icons like Santorini or Mykonos, try the quieter Milos or Karpathos. Or enjoy the romantic atmosphere of Sardinia, especially in the less known parts of the island. Fortunately, nowadays, there's no limit to the imagination. So if you're tempted by the west or have Asia on your bucket list, then let's go on an adventure!

CHOICE OF JEWELLERY: A unique engagement ring with a London topaz or a luxury engagement ring with a blue sapphire are perfect for a proposal on the beach. Their stunning blue colour is reminiscent of the shades of the ocean or the sea – and just the right ring to become a timeless memento of your journey together.

4. Sunset proposal

A sunset is one of the most beautiful scenery imaginable for a proposal. Such timing will naturally enchant all romantic souls. And the biggest advantage is that you can be practically anywhere. All you have to do is find a quiet spot with an open view (ideally to the west side, so the sun doesn't really disappear from your sight before you have a chance to take out the ring).

However, if you're looking for a specific location that's a little more special for you, drag your sweetheart out to a lookout tower or a proper hike. For example, head to Pustý hrádek in Šumava, where you can get a breathtaking view of Kašperk Castle. In Bohemian Switzerland, you can climb Vilemínina stěna, where you can see a sea of forests. And if you would like to watch the sunset over the river, you can experience a beautiful moment from the Bednář viewpoint  which is usually much quieter than the famous Máj viewpoint.

CHOICE OF JEWELLERY: The sun paints the sky in a variety of colours. The red sky can be shades of golden orange, soft pink or even purple. You can project just such a palette into your engagement ring. If you want the ring to match the colors of your moment, we recommend an orange lab-grown diamond, a ring with mystical tanzanite, or a subtly romantic ring with morganite

5. Hikes, rocks and adventures for two

For those who love mountains, hikes and outdoor adventures, asking for a hand in the heights can be the most authentic experience. The journey upwards, the toil, the mutual support, the shared silence and the joy of the view... these moments can symbolise all that can also await you on life's journey together.

Before you decide to climb eight thousanders, consider your abilities. In the Czech Republic, you can visit the Příhrazské skály, for example, where romantic trails between rock towers and spectacular views await you, but fewer tourists. For more privacy, try Krkavčí skála with its breathtaking views of the valley. Abroad, there are the Dolomites or the High Tatras

CHOICE OF JEWELLERY: And what ring is best suited to such an engagement? Reach for an unusual salt and pepper diamond ring or a rough diamond, for example. Slightly imperfect shapes and drawings will then underline the beauty and authenticity of the moment.

TIP MIALIS: And once your engagement is over, you can seal your love with nontraditional mountain wedding bands.
