Our engraved jewellery and everything you need to know about it
Engraving is a beautiful way to add a unique personal touch to your accessories. Whether you want to embellish your new piece of jewellery with a name, an important date, or a special symbol, it becomes an extraordinary and unforgettable memory. Let’s explore what jewellery engraving is, why it’s so popular, and how we do it here at Mialis Jewellery. Engraving is a technique that allows you to engrave ("carve") custom patterns, texts and symbols into the surface of various materials. It is often used in the jewellery industry.
What is engraving?
Types of engraving
Laser engraving
This is an advanced method of using a laser to create fine patterns on various materials. This allows precise details to be achieved every time. This is why we use this technology. Because it allows us to capture every detail with absolute precision, even on the smallest of surfaces and for more complex designs where every millimetre counts.
Hand engraving
The traditional method, the most time consuming for the manufacturer and the most expensive for the customer.
Machine engraving
This option is ideal for higher volumes and mass production.
Why is engraved jewellery so popular?
Are you planning to buy wedding rings or do you want to surprise someone special with a personalized gift that really touches your heart? Gold jewellery will always serve you well. But to make sure it's not just any old jewellery, you can add a touch of uniqueness with engraving.
Thanks to the laser engraving technique, the jewellery will carry a piece of your story. Engraving helps to express love, loyalty and memories through a small but significant detail. And believe me, personalised jewellery will always win the heart of its new owner.
Jewellery engraving at Mialis
If you're looking to buy a piece of designer jewellery and have questions about engraving, you've come to the right place. In this section you will find everything you need to know.
What can we engrave?
That depends on your creativity and requirements. With us, there are no limits to your imagination and, if technically possible, we can engrave almost anything you want on your gold jewellery.
The most common request is for a text.
From names, initials and monograms to important dates, nicknames or quotes. The choice is yours. You can choose from our tried and tested fonts. However, we are happy to accommodate you if you want a different font that is freely available and not subject to any special rights. You just have to bear in mind that in this case the complexity and therefore the price will be assessed individually.
In addition to text, we can also transfer small symbols on your jewellery.
These can be hearts, hobby elements, zodiac signs or other simple graphics. The price again depends on the difficulty of the task. The extra charge depends on whether it is a classic vector graphic or something special.
Then there's our favourite unconventional engraving.
We can create custom jewellery for you in our studio. It can be personalized with a QR code or your own signature. How about a Lord of the Rings ring? With your help, we can also create a piece of jewellery with your fingerprint. The way it works is that you colour in the finger of your choice (with a marker) and print it on paper. Then we scan it, convert it into digital form and voila, we transfer an identical fingerprint onto the jewellery. So if you want a completely original piece of jewellery, don't hesitate to contact us - we'll be happy to make your wish come true.
Which jewellery do we engrave?
Wedding rings
Engraving is most commonly found in wedding rings. They are jewellery with extraordinary meaning, and that is why our customers like to add personal details to them that make them unique. Messages, dates, or even the GPS coordinates of where they met will highlight the specialness of the future newlyweds.
At Mialis Jewellers we offer a choice of Cambria, Montez, Monotype Corsiva, Niconne and Segoe Script fonts. These are footed and more elegant fonts.
The actual engraving of the text within these five fonts is free of charge for wedding rings. If you are interested in a different font that is freely available and not covered by copyright, we can engrave it as well. The price in this case depends on the complexity of the font chosen.
The ordering process is simple:
When selecting your wedding rings, simply check the "Engraving" option in the appropriate box.
Enter the desired text.
Rings, bracelets and pendants
In addition to wedding rings, we also offer engraving on other types of jewellery. Engagement rings or classic rings are engraved for an additional fee and it depends on the width of the ring and the possible setting of stones. If there is enough space on the ring, it is no problem to add, for example, the proposal date or a monogram.
Personalised necklaces and bracelets are another popular option. Here, it depends on the specific design and the space available for engraving. We can engrave them with anything you wish. If you have a specific idea, we are happy to create a custom piece of jewelry for you. Such unique jewellery is a perfect choice for example as a gift.
What is the maximum number of characters?
It depends on the type of jewellery. For pendants and bracelets, the length of the text varies very individually. For rings, size plays the biggest role. However, in order for the text to fit on even the smallest ladies' ring, the text should contain a maximum of 40 characters.
What is the minimum width of the rings for legible engraving?
For best results, we recommend engraving to a ring width of at least 2.5 mm. For rings with a width of 2 mm, engraving is still possible, but in this case we only use the Cambria font, which ensures good legibility even on such a small space.
Can jewellery be engraved additionally?
Yes, additional engraving is a common practice in our company. So if, for example, you want to engrave your wedding rings with the date of your wedding, but you do not know the exact date at the time you are buying the rings, we will carry out additional engraving without any problems.
Is the engraving free?
We personalize wedding rings and pendants or bracelets that are originally designed with engraving for free (when you choose from the fonts mentioned above). Other jewellery and other fonts or more complex symbols are then available at an additional cost depending on complexity.
Can engraved jewellery be resized?
For most engraved jewellery, additional modifications such as reduction or enlargement are not possible. This could distort the appearance of the engraving. But it is always necessary for our jewellers to assess each piece of jewellery individually, there are certainly exceptions.
How to care for engraved jewellery?
In order for engraved jewellery to retain its beauty for many years, it is important to take the right care. We recommend that you do not skip regular cleaning. Simply rinse them under water with, for example, dish detergent and then wipe and polish them with a soft cloth, ideally made of microfibre.
TIP MIALIS: In addition to home care, make sure your jewellery is professionally cleaned regularly. It's free once a year at Mialis!
